General information:

The MarketProfile or TPO – Time Price Opportunity was first developed by Peter Steidlmayer in the 1980s. Steidlmayer was a trader at CBOT and has written several books on Market Profiles, unfortunately only in English.

Many charts are based on price levels, while TPO is based on time intervals of 30 minutes each. Like the VolumeProfile, however, it is based on the statistical norm distribution of 68% of the prices, whereas it is generally rounded up to 70%. The TPO in SierraChart is very versatile and configurable. It is possible to split the TPO into Pre and Main Session, to display it on week or month or even on year. The POC ( Point of Control ) is freely selectable, either “End of Session” or “Until Intersection” – which means that the POC disappears as soon as it is traded. The same is true for Value Area High and Low. The initial balance is also freely selectable from the start time, it is not mandatory to take the first trading hour.

The MarketProfile or TPO, in combination with the VolumeProfile, offers a very good view of both sides of the trading day and, depending on the setting, provides a good view of the “Long Term Traders” who generally move the price sustainably. Trading with the MarketProfile requires some practice and some experience. The different profile types should be known, for this I recommend to read the book by Steidlmayer or Dolton to have a successful start into the topic.

Futures and forex trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. An investor could
potentially lose all or more than the initial investment. Risk capital is money that can be lost without
jeopardizing ones’ financial security or life style. Only risk capital should be used for trading and only
those with sufficient risk capital should consider trading. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of
future results.
